I have a D3x and am trying to figure out my various options for tethering with live view (i.e., the live view appears on the laptop screen while shooting tethered). I own Capture One 5.0 and Lightroom (2.0, I think), as well as Nikon View NX and Capture NX. I have shot tethered before with a Phase One back and C1, but now I'm trying not just to shoot tethered, but to have a tethered live view image displayed on screen.
As far as I can tell, while all of the programs I mentioned above support tethering (i.e., being able to shoot with the camera connected to the computer and have the image transfered to the computer and viewable after it's shot) none of those programs support tethered live view as far as I can tell, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
So I downloaded a trial of Nikon's Camera Control 2, which does allow for tethered live view -- I can see the live view image from the camera on my laptop screen and focus it, change exposure, etc. Which is great, except for the fact that I only really need this capability for a couple of upcoming still life projects, which is not what I normally shoot, meaning it's not really worth it to me to pay $180 for Camera Control 2.
So are there any other less expensive software options for tethered live view with the D3x?
Thanks!

Soforbild. The beta (not the standard application) offers tethered live view for my D3x. The only minus, so far, is that you cannot zoom in the live view window. It's free, it seems more stable and fast than Camera Control Pro, and you can have either Lightroom or Aperture linked as a viewer, if you want (the app does have it's own viewer).

Too bad soforbild is only for MACs
-
Lightroom Beta 3 supports Tethering - and so does Breeze Systems NK Remote (http://www.breezesys.com/NKRemote/index.htm)
-
Lightroom Beta 3 does not support live view and NK remote is not free, ($ 129)

Or Capture One which also has a hot folder functionality.

I wish Capture One offered live view for my D3x !!!

Now why is someone who owns a D3X complaining about $150 (Amazon) for Nikon Capture? The only software that does provide Live View BTW....
-
NK Remote (mentioned above) also provides Live View
-
Aperture 3 allows you to shoot tethered.

Not the only software that does provide Live View . And the main problem is that software is not stable enough (it keeps freezing while in live view mode, and you have to restart everything, most of the time). Plus, the video quality in tripod mode is really crappy, and you cannot make the live view window bigger ... Tethered live view shooting is one of the (few) areas I do miss my Canons !
