Title: Raw Photo Processor
Post by: lowep on February 05, 2010, 11:47:09 am
If you have time try to develop a Sinar raw file with Exposure, then use Raw Photo Processor... I have discovered a huge difference in quality and sharpness! RPP is right now the better... a bit difficult to use but great.

Roberto made this observation in another LL forum thread here (http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41260). When I followed up on his advice to try RPP to convert raw .dng files I was quite astonished!!

So much so that I am much happier for my eMotion 75 back than I was an hour ago.

I didn't see a specific profile on the RPP website for Sinar MFDB -- even though the RPP program did open copies of the unprocessed original .ia files -- but I also found the real improvement was immediately apparent when opening the .dng files already converted by eXposure, so appreciate this tip.

I don't know much about this subject at all so was quite interested to read the information in the FAQ section of the RPP website here (http://www.raw-photo-processor.com/RPP/FAQ.html) Why my Raw files look underexposed (dark, gray veiled) in RPP compared to other converters?.

It seems to my uneducated eyes that there is quite a difference between the raw files opened up in eXposure using the eMotion 75 profile and the darker files that appear when the same .dng files are opened up in RPP.

Now why is that?

Surely not...

http://www.raw-photo-processor.com/RPP/RPP_Uni_1184Beta.zip (http://www.raw-photo-processor.com/RPP/RPP_Uni_1184Beta.zip) - this beta has profiling tool, you will need shots of a CC24 or an SG target to use it to create your camera/lens/filter specific profiles.

Hi Iliah,

I have downloaded and installed this RPP version. I find that if I open a Gretag 24 chart and try tu use the option color profiling it doesn't work, it's greyed... how does it work?

Thanks a lot!

Roberto

Hello Roberto.

Please download today's new release of RPP from my website - it is more recent and has documentation.
Regarding this option being grayed out - make sure that you've entered the unlock key in RPP which I emailed to you about 2 weeks ago and you have a target shot loaded.

Hi Andrey,

I have done the profiling with the last version of RPP. Everything works good and the interface is simple and fast to use. Now I have my profiles for Emotion 54LV and 5D Mark II, the files look the same for what regards colors and saturation.

Thanks a lot, it's a great software!

Roberto
