Title: Some ideas regarding extending depth of field
Post by: ErikKaffehr on January 24, 2010, 02:55:19 am
Hi,

I have a small write up with samples on expanding depth of field. It's an article in progress so it may be updated now and than.

It contains the following:

- A discussion of DoF
- A short discussion of methods
- Samples comparing "stopping down", "tilt lens" and "Helicon focus"
- Real life samples using Helicon Focus

The article is here: http://echophoto.dnsalias.net/ekr/index.ph...ng-the-dof-trap (http://echophoto.dnsalias.net/ekr/index.php/photoarticles/29-handling-the-dof-trap)

Please note that the link is down because of some technical problem. Very sorry!

Please note that many of the images are clickable so you can download a larger image. Some of the images are full size (24.5 MP).

Best regards
Erik Kaffehr

I tried Helicon Focus and found it pretty amazing.  But as a nature/landscape photographer there was rarely a time when there was no movement in my subject due to wind or breeze.  Therefore the images wouldn't line up.  If all was still it is a wonderful program.

Your server seems to be dead.

For what it's worth, tilt lenses do not increase DOF, rather they let you tilt the plane of focus with respect to the film plane.

Erik,
No reason to be sorry at all! I just wanted to let you know that the original issue was still present.
