My Sandisk Extreme Firewire Reader simply stopped working yesterday. I've tried changing the Firewire cord out, but no luck with that. Anyone have any suggestions, or similar experiences?

I've had that happened a couple times and a variety of fixes worked, used a different port, rebooted the computer, used a different computer or threw it against the wall as a last resort

Mine stops working on a regular basis -- put in a card, and nothing happens.
I can usually fix it by unplugging the FW cable, waiting a few seconds, and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, a reboot does.
Not sure this will fix your unit, of course.

Mine disconnects and reconnects somewhat seamlessly every few minutes.

Mine does exactly the same. If I insert a card, somtimes nothing happens. Removing the card and then waiting for a few seconds and re-inserting it solves the issue most of the time but not always. FWIW, I also have the USB Sandisk Extreme reader and I have the same problems although not very often.

My sandisk firewire card reader has failed a # of times too. The company makes you jump though hoops for warranty replacement. I gave-up and just use a basic USB reader now. My guess; its a flawed product.

My SanDisk Extreme FireWire Reader also stopped working recently,
so I decided to try all Hoodman products.
I got both their RAW FireWire CF Reader (http://www.hoodmanusa.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RAW%2DFW8) in addition to their RAW USB2.0 Reader (http://www.hoodmanusa.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RAW%2DUSB2%2E0)
just in case any of the ports on my computers decide to go south.
The cables are not detachable (adding to reliability?),
and a 800 to 400 gender adapter is included with the FireWire Reader.
I even got a couple of their 8GB 100MB/s 675x CF cards (http://www.hoodmanusa.com/products.asp?dept=1007) to use with my Canon 5d2,
and should have a chance soon to use them with a digital back.
What's curious is "SLC inside" is imprinted on the flip side of the card.

After several phone calls, I got an RMA from them. It's a laborious and time consuming process though. You have to send the defective unit to them, then they send you a replacement. So far it has taken three weeks to this point, and I expect it will be another couple until I see the new one. I actually bought another new one a few days ago because I can't wait and these are the fastest for downloading the Sandisk cards I use.
