Title: Rene Staud: Automotive Photography at its best(in Germany at least)
Post by: DanielStone on January 01, 2010, 12:26:21 pm
hey all,

came across this guy a few months back, and was awed by his work. He shoots ONLY cars, and fine ones at that! its an analog video, and these videos I would assume are somewhat older, being that some more recent footage of him at work shows him a bit more portly .

but no matter, his work is brilliant, and these videos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HeuggTYwK0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HeuggTYwK0)  (Iceland trip)

shows a small clip of the process of shooting trucks in a commercial studio setting, even though he isn't the one doing the shooting, most likely an assistant. Its in GERMAN, but the footage speaks for itself, and seeing those gigantic light tables makes me drooooooooooooool!!!!!

there are some others that he has loaded up too, just look for them under his profile

just wanted to share.

Yes the Germans seem to excel at high concept car photography.  Man, some of those locations look COLD!  Takes dedication beyond the norm.

I did some work with Steiner Films, another German company that specializes in car commercials.  This clip shows them using some of the motion controlled camera equipment I used to make when I had a day job.

On one interesting BMW shoot not in the clips we set up a blue-screen stage on an old stone pier extending out from the beach on the Cote d'Azur.  Go figure, but beats the heck out of ice.

I thought the day job was messing about in pink Caddies! Unfortunately, I can't get the videos to play, but I'll try again later once I have cleaned out and reset the friggin' fireplace and made up a cup of java. Like you, I'd rather the Côte d'Azure than Iceland, but that's me: never been to Iceland but perfectly willing and able to make definitive decisions nonetheless.

Ciao

Best way to play MP4's on a PC is the VLC player.  Don't allow Quicktime on your computer, it's the next best thing to a virus.

not really, in German automotive industry most of the photos are CGI. They take the model of the car, and place it in artificially created landscape... nobody shoots real photos anymore - and germans in this industry are number 1!
