Title: Working on LR catalog "offline"
Post by: PeterAit on December 29, 2009, 10:42:22 am
I will be traveling for a week and want to use the time to organize and keyword my LR catalogs. To this end I will copy each LR catalog and the associated photo folders to my laptop, where of necessity they will be on the same drive (on my photo computer they are on separate drives). Will this work? Can I "point" each LR catalog to the new location of the photo files on the laptop, make changes, and then copy back to the original locations on the photo computer without screwing things up?

Thanks,

You can just copy the LR catalogues (lrcat file extension) and the associated previews folders (lrdata) onto the laptop. Of course, if you managed all your pictures with a single master catalogue instead of fragmenting control across multiple catalogues, you would only have to do this copying once.

But you won't need the photo folders if you only want to keyword - only if you want to adjust any images. Afterwards you would just copy all your lrcat files back to your main computer. Do a dry run.
