Title: Canon 7D yellow shift in ACR (tungsten only)
Post by: teddillard on December 11, 2009, 09:12:26 am
Anybody seen this?

It's happening with tungsten sources only, and only in Camera RAW.  DPP does fine, JPEGs are fine.

Wondering if anyone's tried profiling the camera with the Passport software yet?

Video showing it is here:

Adobe Camera Raw 5.5 does not support the 7D. Download and install Adobe Camera Raw 5.6 (beta) from Adobe Labs. It contains support for the 7D and should alleviate your problem.

Thanks Jerry- It actually does, technically support it, and does a great job in daylight.  I did the beta, and updated the post, but it's still pretty yellow.  See the link. Just to make things interesting, the beta plugin causes weirdness with Bridge- lost my RAW rpeviews, and my Smart Collections files flash for a second, then disappear.  Woof.

Sorry you are still having problems Ted, but according to the readme file for Adobe Raw 5.5, it does not support the 7D. This support is added with Adobe Raw 5.6.
You should now have the ability to change settings under the camera profile tab of Camera Raw 5.6 and find a preset that is closer to what you perceive as the actual color.

I'm not having the problems in Bridge that you describe with Camera Raw 5.6.

The dpreview.com review of the 7D faults the camera for very few things. The inability to correctly set white balance under artificial light is one. The review recommends a custom white balance or shooting RAW to compensate. With that said, one of the purposes of the RAW converter is to correct these issues.

Thanks, as soon as I get a chance, I'm going to try out the X-Rite Passport profiling software on it and see how that goes.

The Bridge thing is a mystery.  I posted the question on the Adobe site, so far, nada.

Hi Ted, the initial (prelim) support in CR 5.5 did not have the appropriate white balance mappings for the 7D. That's why you see the strong shift.

CR 5.6 will have the white balance mappings (as well as the usual set of profiles) that will resolve the issue.

Got my answer to the Bridge problem.

...and thanks, Eric- the 5.6b does better, still a little wonky, and the Passport profile looks better still.
