Well, here goes. This is my first post and I'd appreciate any comments.
Thanks

I looked at your website. I particularly like "Barr'd Islands and Icebergs" and "Iceberg in Black and White #1."

Blair, It's a very good shot. My only beef is that on my calibrated monitor the sky appears to have too much red in it. I pulled a copy and used the neutral gray dropper in ACR to do this:

On the other hand, for all I know the sky actually may have been that red. In any case, good shooting.

Fantastic subject matter, very moody. I think I would have framed this a little differently, perhaps moving the camera up so there was less foreground and more sky?
You might want to take a look at Camille Seaman's work, her iceberg studies are breathtaking.

I think it's a great shot. The boat makes it special IMO. I also like the way the sea blends into the sky without any horizon. Personally I rather like the water in the foreground; it makes a good textural contrast with the flat sky and makes the image more fascinating.
Thanks for posting.

Well done!

A very nice photo and the little boat adds a human dimension. FWIW, I find RSL's version better than the original.

Personally I prefer the original - the steely grey of the nearby water, the vivid aqua of the ice just under the water, the bluish white of the ice and the orange glow in the mist all work well together, at least for me. I have no idea what the original scene actually looked like, but the colour rendition works for me.

Thank-you. You are absolutely correct about the red in the sky now that I see the difference..

I wanted to try and balance the vastness of both the sky and the ocean, keeping the solitudes of the icebergs and the fisherman. I felt that the sky did not have the texture that I was looking for, but I do see your point. Thank-you for your suggestion on Camille's site. Her work is very, very good and I love the way she uses her light. I have been somewhat obsessed with photographing icebergs for three years now with no end in sight. Thanks again
