Title: Contax on TV commercials?
Post by: revaaron on November 25, 2009, 04:19:42 pm
I was just watching an Oakhurst milk commercial and the guy was using a contax 645. The only thing was that the prism was on and he was looking down like the waist level were on.

Hi

Guess you mean this one http://www.contaxcameras.co.uk/645/finders/waistlevel.html (http://www.contaxcameras.co.uk/645/finders/waistlevel.html)

I own a Contax myself and use the standard prism finder and would personally not consider using waist level finders for rectangular cameras.
With a 645 camera like the Contax 645 or any Mamiya 645, it's a real pain, when framing in "portrait" position. (Beware of neck stiffness )
A waist level finder is excellent on a square format camera or on a rectangular format camera with revolving back, like the Hasselblad V or Rollei cameras.

I fully agree with you. I don't find myself using that at all.
On my square rolleichord, I loved it.
