Title: Non-DSLR for shooting action shop?

The Sony 828 would probably be the best with its very fast lens, very fast AF , but for a bit more a D70 and fast lens would be a lot better with much longer bursts along with AF during burst mode.

Would any of the currently available NON-DSLRs, 6 to 8MP, digital cameras on the market be suitable/acceptable for shooting action sports (in typical daylight)?
