Did you make sure the lens shade is fully 'clicked' into place? The Minolta lens shade used on the Dimage 7xx/A1/A2 cameras is hard to lock into place the first time, and many people fail to turn it hard enough to lock (it feels like you have to turn it much too hard). There will be an audible click into position when you lock the shade correctly. If you didn't feel and hear the click, you almost certainly didn't lock it into place.
To tell if the lens is fully on, check the dot on the lens against the focal length line - if they are not obviously aligned, you haven't locked the shade on.
Another way to check is to try turning the shade in the removal direction - if it comes of fairly easily, you didn't lock the shade.
If the shade is not fully locked into place, you will get vignetting at wider focal lengths, and the shade can easily fall off.

I had read in a review of the A2 that the reviewer commented on the lose fit of the lens shade when attached to the camera and hoped that Konica-Minolta would fix this on production unit. Thus I assumed this was how it wa supposed to fit. Thanks for the tip.
I did have to contact Minolta about another problem and that is an item for a new thread. However the toll free number for digital support is 1-877-462-4464, while the number for film support is 1-866-515-0330. Don

I need to contact Minolta as I have a problem with my A2 lens shade vignetting on the top right corner with lens set at 35mm equivalant of 28-35mm. There web-site is totally not user friendly. Is any one else having a vignetting problem with the A2?
Thanks, Don

In California, I was given this number for Minolta cameras, 800 808-4888. The contact info given for Konica Minolta Cameras on their site follows. Hope this helps - and that you let us know if and how you reached them, etc. Regards, Dan
