Title: FTC to blogger: Disclose Who Pays
Post by: Bob Peterson on October 05, 2009, 01:42:46 pm
The United State's Federal Trade Commission today announced new rules about the disclosures required when a company compensates a reviewer. The FTC press release states the following.
[blockquote]The revised Guides specify that while decisions will be reached on a case-by-case basis, the post of a blogger who receives cash or in-kind payment to review a product is considered an endorsement.  Thus, bloggers who make an endorsement must disclose the material connections they share with the seller of the product or service.[/blockquote]
The relevance to many photography related blogs is obvious, as is the relevance to the previous discussion here under the subject "Who Pays? (http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37631)".
