Title: Digital Holga
Post by: teddillard on September 14, 2009, 11:28:30 am
Just in case any of you had any lingering doubts about my relative (in)sanity...  my Digital Holga how-to (http://www.h2hreviews.com/blog/The-Digital-Holga-How-To.html).

I'd had a little bit on this on my blog, and Nic Nichols at Four Corners Dark (http://nicnichols.com/FourCornersDark/?page_id=3957) stumbled on it...  of all places to find that kind of thing, CNET (http://asia.cnet.com/crave/2009/09/11/digital-holga-for-the-rich-only/?scid=rss_c_crv) then picked it up...

crazy thing, this internets...

The first person I ever saw do this was some time ago, sorry someone beat you to the punch: http://www.holgadigital.com/blog_2/about.html (http://www.holgadigital.com/blog_2/about.html)

While his © is 2008, I remember this to be posted maybe 4-5 years ago. I bookmarked it back then.

yeah I've seen his site...  haven't contacted him though.  as far as I know I was first, back in '03 or so.  (as if it matters,  )  He certainly is a lot more committed to it, he has some great images up.

Pictures (taken by the rig, of course), or it didn't happen!

Awesome stuff, Ted!  I'm tempted to try this...

Out of curiosity, how did you figure out the proper flange distance, just started filing and stopped at some point?

snap!

Thanks...  it was fun.

As far as the flange goes, I literally just popped the adapter plate off and looked at it.  At first I set the back in there (resting on the Holga film guides) to figure how I was going to mount it, then I realized the ditance was right and I could use the existing camera back.  I'm not sure how another DB would work, like the Phase that other guy used.

ive seen a couple of cameras that have just used the holga or diana lenses mounted on other bodies. thats another approach that avoids the strapped on bit. ill see if i can find the links. pitty there isnt a 6x6 digi back to take full advantage of the dodgy lenses.

Heres a link to the HolgaMods site (http://www.holgamods.com/xt/xt.html)- they show an adapter for Canon, but you can make one with any Hloga lens and a camera body cap (and a hole cutter...      )

oh, snap- here's that how-to. (http://www.howcast.com/videos/217390-How-To-Make-Your-Holga-Lens-Mountable-To-Your-SLR-Camera-EOSNikonSony-ETC)

Hee hee...  But I just love all the elastics!!

I've got a Holga here and a CFV-39.  I'll play this weekend to see if I can get them to make nice with each other.

As for getting more coverage, there was this chip (http://www.fairchildimaging.com/products/fpa/ccd/area/ccd_485.htm) which was used in the Dicomed Big Shot 6x6 (http://www.theimagelab.com/dicomed/products.htm#bigshot) (56mm x 56mm digital back)...

I think you guys need a P65+ to take full advantage of the Holga capabilities. And then try stitching 1201 images together to make a bigger pano than the "world's largest" (link posted on another thread).

Why settle for "good enough" when you can go "over the top?"

Thank you for quoting my favorite philosopher.
