Title: Anyone got the Alien Bees Parabolic Light Modification System
Post by: sperera on August 19, 2009, 08:22:43 am
so this is the blurb:
The PLM™ System is a modular light modifier system that can quickly be configured as a large, HIGH-OUTPUT, VIRTUALLY ROUND PARABOLIC REFLECTOR, as a WIDE OR NARROW BEAM SOFTBOX, or as a BOUNCE OR SHOOT-THROUGH UMBRELLA, with or without spill control.

While usable with most flash units capable of accommodating an 8mm shaft, it is most effective with Paul C. Buff, Inc.™ lights that produce a true bare bulb capability, in conjunction with the PLM™ 7” Reflector.

The PLM™ System comes in three sizes: 86” (75” across the face), 64” (55” across the face), and 42” (39” across the face). Umbrellas are generally specified by the arc dimension rather than across the face.

...sounds great to me...is anyone using one already???????????

Has anybody had some experience as a softbox (octa) replacement?
About the 64" (55” across the face) in particular.

I've seen the very positive review, but it's mostly non studio work "long distance" work.

Anybody that has studio experience?

There is a version II in the works which should be released soon which should be even better. It’s also worth noting for people looking at these that because of the parabolic design the larger ones are more efficient than the smaller ones, they are also very sensitive to placement of the flash.
