Just released Capture 4.8.2
Snook
Main improvements are
- P65+ and P40+ image quality
- improved stability (mostly regarding 8-core Mac Pros)
- improved stability of Live Preview
- option to lock tethered capture to vertical or horizontal format*
- Network access much improved in speed for multiple folders NAS drives and for Mac AFP drives
Added Support for
- Canon 500D, Pentax K7, Nikon D5000/6000, Olympus E-450/E-P1, Sony A230/A330
If none of these directly affect you I would stick with 4.8.1 until 4.8.2 has been out for awhile (nothing specific to 4.8.2 - just a good practice in general). 4.8.1 has been very stable and fast.
Anyone waiting for a specific major improvement should be aware the programmers are working on a major release which addresses many user requests for features; this release was a minor release to fix a few specific bugs.
Also for best results we recommend as always to completely uninstall the previous version prior to installing the new version per our instructions (http://www.captureintegration.com/2008/11/20/uninstalling-capture-one-4-on-mac/).
*Solves annoyance of shoots where camera is pointed straight down or up

Shameless self promotion here: We have just set the dates for our very popular Capture One Online Training classes.
September 15: Intro to Capture One
September 22: Transitioning from C1 3.7
September 29: Masters Level
It's a great way to learn. Class size is small enough to allow everyone to ask questions and get clarification. Attendees and I are on a conference call for voice and in a screen sharing application for video (everyone sees my screen as I work with Capture One). I am very frank about the advantages and disadvantages of the program and focus on practical usage rather than "marketing speak".
It is open to anyone who has an internet connection, a credit card, and can speak English well enough to understand what I am saying.
If you first tried Capture One 4 in it's early days I will be the first to say that it sucked at that point. 4.7.x was a big improvement and 4.8.x is just plain good. 4.8.1 is a very fast, very stable raw processor with excellent image quality, great workflow tools, and a good variety of features.
If you've never used C1 4 before, do yourself a favor and download the free trial (http://phaseone.com/Content/Downloads/CO4.aspx) and compare a conversion of your raw to Photoshop, LightRoom, or Aperture.

Still no support for Leaf users ? any plan in the future ? If so, what about the live view with leaf backs ?
Thanks

I don't know if "still" is a fair word. This version of Capture One would have been in the works before the leaf deal went through.
The specific plans there are I cannot comment on, but the lack of support in this release cannot be considered evidence of anything. Support for a digital back in a serious piece of workflow software should not be rushed-to-market.

I would be more interested in something called Live view ? any news on that ?

so changes to "P65+ image quality" are what - better profiles, or... ?
- should I re-process some of my best keepers in 4.8.2 and would I notice anything if I did?!

Good question, I would think no, but perhaps someone can show us a sample that there is a real difference.

I like capture one but I find the interface really terrific , why is it impossible to get it on 2 screens with the tools on one screen and the photo on the other one ?

If you have the Pro version, you can just drag the tools out to your second monitor and close the tool pane on your main monitor.

But I cannot get the thumbnails + tools on the right and photo on the left

Correct - you can have the thumbs on the left and the tools on the right and vice versa (or the thumbs below) but the viewable image is always in the middle (unless you have no tools or no thumbs or no tools/thumbs....etc...

many photographers actually have 2 monitors , it is very practical to put all the tools on a screen and the photo alone on the best (calibrated) screen

Yes, but it's very easy to do that with C1 4 by selecting 2 Monitor setup in the Window>Workspace menu. By default the 2nd window will show the viewer only. You can then choose to not have the viewer shown in the 1st window, showing only the thumbnails and tools.

Steve,
Any idea why there is a Leica M9 profile listed in the new release.
This copied from the Leica Users Forum,
"I recently installed Capture One Pro 4.8.2 (Windows Vista). I went into the Color Profiles folder to rename "Leica M8-Generic UV-IR.icm" as "Leica M8-Generic.icm" so that it becomes my default color profile for M8. Well, what do you know? There is a file called "LEICA M9-GENERIC.ICM" dated 7/6/09. Furthermore, there is no UV-IR equivalent for M9. Do they know something? "

Mark:
I do not know why that file is there.
Also, I should mention that while my user name still says "Steve Hendrix/Phase One", I have resigned from Phase One and accepted a position with Capture Integration. I'm much happier working from this side of the fence and glad to be in this role once again. So, I am no longer the "official" from Phase One (or the attorney, as someone mentioned). I have requested my profile be changed to only reflect "Steve Hendrix".
Until then, sorry for any confusion.
I can certainly still (and will) answer Phase One inquiries - since I sell it - but I will not be answering as an official representative of Phase One and following any parameters that go along with that.
