Canon EOS 50D – Best Remote Controller for $? :

I’m looking at two remote controllers for the EOS 50D: - (1) Opteka Timer Remote Control ($69.95); or (2) Canon TC80N3 Time Remote Controller ($141.90).  Prices are at Amazon.com.

Both seem to offer basically the same modes of operation -- and I won’t be using this device on an everyday basis.

How good is the Opteka’s quality and durability?  Is Canon’s overpriced version worth the cost?  Which one would you choose?

Thanks.

I got one just like that directly from a Chinese vendor selling on Ebay.  The device I got is identical in every way to the canon product that costs 2X as much.  I don't normally go for this kind of stuff, but in this case, I would get the knockoff.

TC80N3
great for long exposures, multiples and sequentials
not sure about the off brand
I have had my Canon for a few years now and still on the original batteries.
I have been using it in rain, wind and sand and have had no problems, ever.

Hi guys,

I decided to stay with the Canon TC-80N3 after all.

Thanks for replying.
