my macbook pro 15" is often not big enough for a decent preview, currently i am using an additional screen, but i thought an 24 imac should do the trick. is there a way to mount is on a tripod, like a c-stand?

Matthews and Manfrotto both make devices that may be attached to tripods that allow for monitors to be secure.

[i would either drill out the a hole in the bottom of the stand part of the monitor for a tripod plate. a heavy duty head would do well.
or go to a welding shop and have them fabricate a heavy duty slip holder that the bottom of the monitor stand slides into with any attachment ( baby mount for a c stand or whatever). it is usually cheap and very strong.

Matthews just released a heavy duty display holder, check www.msegrip.com

I am looking for the same thing with my 2 23 apple displays. How would you mount the Imac with the MS attachment. The MS uses 4 screws the apple products use a different mount?

pixjohn, you'd need a vesa mount:
http://store.apple.com/de/product/MB902 (http://store.apple.com/de/product/MB902)
250$ is rather steep for the matthews mount, though having the mount dissintegrate with an imac mounted is probably more expensive

For those of us in the US

Once you have the $30 Apple VESA part, then one of the following:

this one goes into a grip head

I am thinking of getting one of these arms to mount on a rolling set cart. I just needed the VESA mount.
