What system you mount your digital back on to? (AFi,Hy6 H1, H2, H3 AFD, Contax, Alpa etc)
Are you planing to change systems, or looking in to, say AFi, Hy6 .... or Nikon/Canon/Sony
-
I'm always curious where opt-in polls like this are intending to go...
Still, here's my saga:
P45 on Hassy 500
P45+ on Hassy 500
P45+ on Hassy H2
eMotion75LV on Hy6
P45+ on Phase One 645AF
All sold/traded away. And now,
P45+ on Contax 645AF
Use: nature photography, incl. wildlife.
Best regards,
-Brad

Contax 645. Planning on getting a Sinar e54LV, if the Hy6 problems are solved. If not, probably P25 or P30, maybe P45. Maybe +.
-
2 Contax bodies with a P30. All good for the foreseeable future. Are there statistically more Contax users responding here, for some reason, or more of a user base than I realized?
-

P45+ on PhaseOne 645
My plans will be to have the back on a Linhof Techno and the new Phase body.
-
Sinarback 43HR, with P2 (Sinarcam 2), Mamiya 645 or RZ.
7 Sinaron digital lenses, and a lot of Sekor 645 & RZ. The Sinarcam 2 with the 43HR allows using of Nikon or Mamiya lenses. The PC Micro Nikkor 85mm tilt-shift is my favorite.
I'm generally using the 16-shots mode, who gives me 44 Mpix. The 24/36 format of the 43 is really nice for close-up (jewellery), but i think i will buy soon a 645 back (Sinarback 75H ???), nicer for wide-angle photography.
I also like my Nikon 700, a very nice machine : the Camera Control Pro program is really confortable. I'm quite allways working with my Mac's and Eizo screens.

Colorwave.
Interesting isn't it Contax is doing well...Brad has owned H, Hy6, Phase ..AND Contax. He can probably work as a consultant :-)
I'm not a scientist, so this is a soft calculation .. it is a small sample, but we can see some trends. Yes, Contax is alive and popular. People didn't sell their SINAR view cameras. Hasselblad H3 is not showing --maybe the owners are the busiest and will poll latter??-- AFi/Rollei/Hy6 is doing very well for such a young system Rollei is not young of course- ... what else? ah, yes, there is variety, no?

Rollei 6008 AF / phase, Mamiya RZ
I've had plans to upgrade to the Hy6 at some point but have been waiting for either a back with good high ISO or a bigger square, or even just for phase to put their p45+ on the Hy6 - well that and all the cash its going to take too.

I am doing an Excel document on the data you are providing us, but I made another round of hand counting for the cameras and backs.. it is something like this. It is late here, so I will revise it tomorrow and hopefully there will be more data coming.

Now there's an idea! Maybe I can earn back a few of the many $$$ lost on those switches!
And I guess I have my answer too, from my initial post--I too am surprised by the diversity of answers here as well as the strong showing from Contax. I didn't expect that at all.

Hasselblad/Imacon 528C on a Rollei 6008i; several lenses.

Contax (2); rented or borrowed p45+ and p30+; also a fair amount of TXP, TMY, Portra 160NC and 400NC.
Nikon D3;
Nikon D2H for those jobs where I expect it to be destroyed, but no such luck so far;
and a Nikon F that I bought new 40 years ago still sees some use because...well, just because.
Thinking of leasing a p45+ or p65+ later this year or early next.
Or an e75 lv if someone came up with a truly good offer.

-
I deam about Contax-II 645
I think a lot of people feel the same way.
If I sold all my digital backs today, I'd still keep the Contax, just because it's so nice to work with, especially with film. Something strange happens to film cameras when they have a digital back on them. They become cropped and less responsive, though the p21+ is much nicer to work with than the p30+ just because it fires faster and works easier. . . almost like film.
It's kind of strange that this camera went out of production and now our options are limited to the Mamiya as the only open platform medium format camera that is currently made.
It would be as if Kia became the only car you could buy.

Totally agreed. Even without any more improvement, the Contax 645 in back then available today is still a very capable and robust one.

With digital the world is all backwards.
With film, nobody would have bought a film stock that only worked in one camera.
Nobody would have introduced a new camera that worked with only one or two films.
Nobody would have paid 10x the price of a roll of film because it had 20% less grain.
I've known a lot of amateurs and professionals that bought a contax first then started jonesing for a digital back and they usually bought one, though in the last few years had to wait until all the H system orders were filled. And I've known a lot of people then sell their digital backs and move to the H system because they've needed leaf shutter lenses, or because they just stopped using medium format digital, though I've known few to sell their contax.

My hobby is collecting interesting cameras, I no longer have any interest what so ever in making photographs - it has all been done before and is being done better by others. I just sit in a corner at nights and fondle the stuff and I always wear a new pair of white cotton gloves when I do it - i have boxes of them delivered regularly - remember dust is the #1 enemy of mankind _ I have a phobia about dust particles you see ..dust on a sensor diust on a lens - it helps that I have a clean room to into which I go - you know when I need to ..fondle. regarding making money - I am not licensed to give out financial advice - please see your local stock broker/banker/accountant etc. also dont believe anyone who says that money cant buy you love I have found this to be totally untrue.

OK, I'll play,
4x Contax 645 bodies, multiple copies of all Contax lenses, some even new along with several Hasselblad lenses with Contax adaptors, I guess I have settled on my MF platform for good!
Fuji 680GXIII, with a few lenses, still getting the hang of this system, not fully committed here.
MFBs, 2x Kodak, Aptus 22, 54s and 75s.
4x Fuji S5s and many lenses of all brands, feel fairly secure and content with this system for the foreseeable future, no plans to change bodies yet.

Wanted to shift to H but was advised against it.
In India, there is no service backup to speak of, for the H series.
Some collegues had horror stories when it came to repairs.
They had to fly down to Hong Kong to fix it.
The V series is easily repairable coz its all manual.
Both body and lenses are easily repairable
and we have good technicians outside of H'blad.
My Leaf, on the other hand, has a fantastic dealer/service.
I get prompt support in case of any issues.
Software or hardware related.
The ebox of my Aptus failed once and it was replaced overnight.
I couldn't ask for more.
I would never recommend anyone to buy a digital back off ebay.
Or even a personal sale without dealer support / warranty.
I know I would have torn my hair out if it wasn't for my dealer.

interesting point of view, not everyone is in the north -I am in Bolivia !- I have never ever in my life had a problem with my Mamiyas, but I could probably buy a second body as a back up, there is plenty on eBay. Sounds like me. Just an amateur. After I bought a Contax 645 and after digital started to take off, I had the naive hope that someday I would be able to afford a digital back for it . Many times I have considered selling it, but it is just such a great camera. I have an Olympus E3 which is ideal for the canoeing/rafting stuff I do, but if I go out with both cameras and start shooting with the E3, as soon as I pick up the Contax, the Olympus stays in the bag.

Contax 645 & P30+ (I have owned this kit for almost 6 months and I love the camera more for each shoot. Undoubtedly the best camera I have ever owned)
Canon 1dsII (this will be exchanged for a D3X at the first given opportunity...I was always a Nikon shooter, but when I needed to go digital Nikon did not make a FF body)
I recently did 80x100cm enlargements (digital c-types) from P30+ files and I cannot imagine ever requiering higher resolution than what I have. For me the Contax 645 and P30+ is the perfect outfit...perfect...perfect...perfect.
And wouldn't it just be great if someone (Sinar?) started making them again. Don't change it, just start making it again
-
It is so interesting, as crazy your idea is, I said exactly the same in the "Will SINAR Survive" thread. Probably the most interesting first result from this poll must be the following and --user satisfaction may be understatement-- for the CONTAX. Definitively something to learn from for the surviving teams in MF... and all future challengers.

OK - I'll play too:
Rollei 6008AF with dp20 back (new favorite)
Also 6003 Pro, with 40, 60, 55PCS, 90 and 180 lenses
2.8 D (bought new by father) and GX
Leica M8, with CV15, 28, 50 'cron and 90 macro
Canon 20D (gathering dust- its around somewhere).
While its interesting to read about the newer backs, the old P20 on the Rollei just makes such lovely files, its hard to imagine why one would need more. Higher ISO would be nice, bigger square sensor also, but the quality now is just lovely.

Leonardo,
I currently use H1+P30 with A900 and Canon G9 as backup.
On my wishlist is AFDII with a 50mpixel or higher back. The Hassey and lenses are too heavy for air travel. Also 31-39mpixels is not enough resolution for non-panorama phtoography with larger print sizes.

Thank you everyone -and the if you have not yet posted: welcome-- for listing your gear of the moment here. I will continue with the count and post the results, but I'm sure CONTAX will be coming up with good numbers. Are you listening Kyocera??

Now very happy with a D3X with a Nikkor 14-24 and Nikkor 24+45+85 PC-e lenses.
Also have the ZF35/2+ZF85/1.4 and the ZF100/2
For my needs the above kit does the job nicely.
Maybe not the high end quality you get with MFDB with HR lenses, but I knew that anyway.
Best,

We use all Zeiss medium format glass, and various bodies to make use of them:
Sinar m - for multishot, repro, and high speed AF
Contax 645 - zoom lens, TTL flash, and backup for m camera
Hasselblad 201F - leaf shutter/high speed flash
Hasselblad Flexbody - modified for additional front tilt/shift , portable technical camera
Hasselblad 903SWC - repro, some landscape
We had the Hy6 system as well, but recently sold it in favor of the Sinar M system. The Hy6 is a wonderful camera, but we found the M to better meet our needs for the various Zeiss glass that we prefer. The Sinar m can also be used as an electronic shutter for the Sinar p2/p3 cameras. In addition, it can also be used as a unique rangefinder with the Rodenstock HR28mm lens (unique since it uses an electronic focal plane shutter capable of 1/2000, and also supports multishot without a Rollei shutter/control unit). This system is well integrated, as the Hasselblad V glass can be used interchangeably among the camera bodies. Of course, the FE glass can only be used on the Contax, 201F and M cameras.
We only use two types of digital backs for all of the above cameras:
Sinar eMotion 75LVII - with Sinar m, Hasselblad V, and Contax 645 adapters
Sinar 54H - also with Sinar m, Hasselblad V, and Contax 645 adapters

IS some one going to summarize this thread in the end?

I have done about half, but we could have a second opinion since it is difficult to make the count for the variety of platforms ... at one time I was thinking that someone was talking about digital backs and it was film brands, etc...
