Any reason?

It must be a conspiracy aimed at hiding the superiority of the D3x?!?

Cheers,

Maybe MR just prefers the superior color separation of the A900?

It's those black helicopters again.

Actually, I shot mostly with the Sony A900 and the Phase P65+ rather than the D3x. The main reason why the Sony was because I had two bodies, making lens switching easier, and also six different lenses. I only had one lens for the Nikon, a 24-70mm, which while an excellent lens just wasn't the focal range that this trip favored.

The reason for the lens disparity was that the Nikon loaner arrived just a day before I left for the trip. I was already packed and ready to go and could only just jamb the body and one lens into my bag.

The Phase One camera and P65+ got used as much as I could because the image quality is so astonishing that it seemed a shame to shot with anything else.

As for image quality differences between the A900 and the D3x these are almost impossible to see until ISO gets to 1600 or above, where the Nikon has a one stop advantage. Since I was mostly shooting between 200 and 800 there seemed little advantage to the D3x over the Sony. I also have been shooting with a D3 for the past 14 months, so the D3x didn't attract me for it's "newness" while I find myself actually preferring the simplicy of the controls of the A900. The in-body stabilization of the A900 also was important because I was mostly shooting with long lenses, up to 500mm hand-held a great deal of the time.

In any event, my D3x field report will be online here in a couple of days.
