Title: Backup error
Post by: DougL on December 25, 2008, 01:51:03 pm
I have Lightroom 2.2 on an IMac. I have 4 external drives connected, all of which appear on the desktop.

In attempting to back up my Lightroom catalogue, I get this error message:

"We're sorry, Lightroom was unable to back up the catalogue <filename>. You may wish to check folder permissions or available space."

When I choose a different external drive, I get the same message. All the drives have a lot of free space. Searching the net for this message gives me no hits.

Any advice?

My bad. The error is with my Mac, not with Lightroom.

I bought a new Western Digital external drive. I assume it was FAT32 formatted, as it accepted files from the Mac (it has never been connected to a PC).

For no apparent reason and without any obvious notice, it became a read-only drive, although it retained its FAT32 format. I will move the existing data and reformat. I suspect this will fix it.

The upside to all this is that I have learned a fair bit about PC and Mac formatting schemes for external hard drives.
