Title: Sony 500mm lens review
Post by: Charles Bragg on December 15, 2008, 08:22:49 pm
Question - this lens is based on the old Minolta AF 500 cad, but can you tell me how they compare optically? I've owned the older lens almost since it came out, precisely for the virtues you mention in the review. The digital darkroom can now take care of some of its drawbacks, so it's even more valuable to me than before. It's a perfect 'tourist' lens because it is so easy to carry - I use an old Tamrac holster bag, one that cannot fit my optically superior but much heavier glass 400mm lens. When you are on a trip with non-photographers you have to be quick and travel light.  The setup is light enough to carry all day, and you don't get the photo if you don't bring the equipment.
