I am looking at the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM II as a present for my Father for Christmas.
I have read a few reviews and the general concensus is that is is a capable lens for most situations, albeit a bit soft if used on the macro setting.
Just wondered if anyone had experience of this lens.
Thanks

Although I've only had the lens a couple of weeks, it seems to be a great bargain. Yes it's a bit soft, but I prefer that for my type of work. It focuses quickly on my d700. The HSM is near silent, which I need. Unfortunately, I'm not able to provide samples as the few I shot were for commercial clients under stipulation of not sharing. But I think your father will be very pleased. The lens rated very well with DPR review and you should check them out as well. In handling, I felt it was much better than my cousins Nikkor equivalent. I don't think you can go wrong for the $799.00 I paid for it from B&H.
