Title: Looking for a format to archive Sinar STI files?
Post by: evgeny on November 13, 2008, 09:53:06 am
Hi,

I shoot with Sinarback 54M tethered to Macbook with CaptureShop 5.x.

My current workflow is to save 45Mb STI files in 125Mb TIFF for editing in Photoshop. This creates the need to manage pairs of files (STI and TIFF) and requireds a lot of storage space (45Mb + 125Mb = 170Mb/image).

CaptureShop can also save STI files in 65Mb Photoshop format. Is Photoshop format stores less data than TIFF?

I also heard about DNG, but I don't like the need to download an addition software to convert STI to DNG. Can I do that conversion via CaptureShop and Photoshop?

So, I'm looking for a solution where I can work with 1 file, which I can modify as needed in Photoshop and roll back to its previous state, if necessary. When I finish, I will store that file in an archive. Then I will Scale the archived file and Save As jpeg for the web or print, and remove jpegs.

Please advice which format to use and how to convert?
Thank
