I had to replace my motherborad in my computer and I got a new monitor that I need to profile, after all of this my Epson 1270 stayed turn off for several weeks, now that the computer is back I tried printing and the heads are very clogged up! I tried several cleaning cycles and it helped a little, now I am also getting black smudges in some of my test prints. I was told about the Windex trick but I have not found it yet, also I am better off just getting new cartridges? Is the problem fixable? The ink is at about 60 % so I would hate to have to throw away the cartridges.
I went to the Epson site and they have a printer for about $ 300 or so, is this a good printer? I think it uses ink instead of pigments. It si a 13x19 like my 1270.
Thanks,
Andres

Hi Andres,
You can find cleaning instructions at this site (http://web.archive.org/web/20080205033910/http://www.maxpatchink.com/directions-solutionkit.htm). It was written for use in conjunction with a special cleaning solution but I have used this method and Windex with success on my Epson 1270.

Johnny

I had a 1270 several years ago, and no, I didn't have the dreaded fading problem..
Technology has moved on. Write the 1270 off. Consider the Canon 9000 or 9500 (pigment) types. If you get a Pixma Pro 9500, you will have to use profiles.
