Title: Calibrating everything under Windows?
Post by: Vadim Makarov on August 31, 2008, 01:49:15 pm
I have Dell 2408, which seems to display colors inaccurately. I do image editing mainly for Web and other non color managed applications. I want images on my monitor look the same in Photoshop and in the end application. One review (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_2408wfp.htm) has said Del 2408 is bad out of the box but calibrates pretty well. Is there a way to feed the color profile to the video card, so that colors are corrected not in software but at the video card output, so that everything it displays becomes color calibrated? I have NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS, haven't so far found a way to feed a color profile into it.

People on this forum have regarded NEC 2690 highly... is the LUT feature in this momitor working just as above, being hardware-only color correction, so that everything under Windows becomes color calibrated?

Whatever display you have, it needs to be calibrated and profiled. You need a colorimeter and accompanying software to create a display profile. That package should automatically put the profile in the correct folder of you operating system, set it as the default display profile (whether Mac or PC) and automatically upload it to your display when you start your computer. That will take care of YOUR display accuracy. If you are producing mainly for the web, you would want to select sRGB as your default colour space in Photoshop (use Black Point Compensation) and adjust your images accordingly, because most of the time this should display the images about right on other peoples' displays remembering that if their displays are grossly incorrect there is nothing you can do about that.
