I know the Z3100 has a maintenance device that keeps nozzles and heads clogging-free when kept on.
I just wonder if it's an issue to turn off the Z when not in use for a few hours and/or at night ?
In other terms, I'd rather leave it on half of the time. Is it an issue ?

HP says leave it on.
That means leave it on.

If HP says so.

I'd say leave it on - so it could do it's "every 5 hour maintenance routine".
That's what I do, anyway. No clogs yet.

I don't think it will cause an issue to turn it off . I've left mine on for the last 15 months and its not been a problem. It goes to sleep and periodically wakes up to jiggle the carts and test things.

There is probably no issue in turning it off a few hours and missing one of the scheduled checkups each day. Personally having it ready at all times and knowing it will not have a clog because I didn't let it do it's thing is more important to me than whatever may be gained from a daily power cycling. I just don't need to take the chance that I might not have it when I need it and may have to go through the time and expense of a cleaning routine for nothing.
My wife complained about hearing it in the middle of the night but after a few days it's not an issue anymore.

I agree with the rationale — and my wishes to your wife.

I used to turn it off as the place was quieter without the fans. I didn't have any clogs on any of the Z' s because of the printers being off.

Thx Neil.
I may switch it off some days.

Is it possible to schedule the timing and frequency of the self-maintenance? I live in a studio-type place and I'd rather not have it clunking at 3am...

Not that I'm aware of.

Nope.
