I can't print to my Epson 4000 when in 64 bit mode using LR 2.0. Guess I'll have to stay in 32 bit for printing and I doubt that Epson will release new drivers for these older printers.

Correct...only 4/7/9/11880 (and R2880 and 3800) have heads & drivers that are capable of 16 bit output...it's not just a driver issue...
-
Thanks for the reminder that the default is 32 bit.

Should the 4800 print 16bit with the new version of Lightroom?

Thanks Jeff. More justification for getting a new printer.

I think Mr Schewe stated that: "only 4/7/9/11880 (and R2880 and 3800) have heads & drivers that are capable of 16 bit output...it's not just a driver issue..."
I take that to mean the printers 4880/7880/9880/11880...
So the short answer is no for the 4800

Nope...neither the driver nor the head can print in 16 bit...

I was confused about the beta 16 bit drivers epson released for this printer.
I was wondering why the 16 bit option was not showing up.
thanks for clearing it up.

OK. so what's happening when I print with 16 bit toggled to a R2400 and the print is great? Is the 2400 driver ignoring LR? I'm confused, now (?).

The 2400 and newer 2880 also support 16-bit printing.
-
Andrew, are you sure that the older R2400 also supports 16-bit?
(I was under the impression that it was only 8-bit but would be happy to find out I'm wrong ...)

You're right, no 16-bit option. I just sent my older 2400 to a buddy but there's still a driver here and its not showing that option. I do know I updated the Leopard version as the one that shipped with the printer didn't work properly in LR.
The 2880 driver has it for sure.

Assuming Andrew is correct that the 2400 doesn't do 16-bit, am I doing any harm by leaving the 16-bit option toggled ON in LR2 printing????

No. You're sending 8-bits thought the driver.

Thanks for checking, Andrew.

Wasn't the first post about printing when running LR2 as a 64bit app?
What does that have to do with 16bit printing.
I would be curious to know are there any printer/driver combination that allow printing with LR running as a 64bit app. Right now all I get is the printer driver choices with a line through them and a error message when they are selected.

I use QTR for my B&W printing and I'm able to get around this problem by selecting "Printer Features" which gets me access to the QTR driver in 64 bit using my Epson 4000 as a Quad4000 printer. Roy will probably have a 64 bit print dialog available soon to fix this. I can select 16 bit printing, but as Andrew and others have already noted it is still 8 bit printing with older printers like the 4000. At least I don't have to switch to 32 bit mode just to get access to the old printer in LR2. Unfortunately, the Epson driver is not as easy to work with and I use the CB RIP instead for color work.
