Love the composition if a little sentimental; but what´s wrong with sentiment, anyway?

I usually don't do "sentimental", but in this case it seemed appropriate. There was something very haunting about the locale, and I decided to play up its sense of the romantic.

I like this one alot.....speaks to me more than some of the other ones; not exactly sure why....maybe a bit "haunting"......

Michael - I always enjoy your shots and just like anyone else, find some more compelling than others. This one instantly hit me (in a good way!) and am curious as to whether you used any special image processing techniques.

Other than regular raw conversion I used two Lightroom tools. The first was a negative value in Vibrance, to add a diffused quality, and the second was ..... (ooops, can't tell you till Lightroom 2.0 ships, sorry).

this just isn't right, fair, you guys are just mean...we're all photographers here, surely you can tell us...

this is a form, subtle ok, of torture :-)

by the way Michael, I too like the dream like quality of this image...very nice...

I wrote negative vibrance. I meant negative clarity.

The other tool should be obvious, but maybe not.

Negative clarity slider is available in the beta...so no secrete with that..,hmmmm

Hmmm...how fun!  It looks like maybe a vignette; but that is also already available in the current shipping version.  Sure looks like that was done though...maybe something else.

I would guess the brush tool with negative brightness in the sky. Maybe a touch of clarity added by editing the brush.

My appreciation leads me to dissect...but I wouldn't say it's true 100 percent of the time...

Also, part of what has me perusing forums like this is to learn...Michael's images are provocative...I appreciate and am inspired by the new images in his report on the D700 and so learning some method, with all that's available now via computer, is a good thing...

I must admit though, generally, inspiration is preferred to information...

I knew there was somethimg else about the picture that gave me a sense of unease - that something wasn´t quite kosher -I think I´ve found out what it is. If you look at the path, it runs vertically from foreground to background, exactly as if it had been in  the CENTRE of the frame; do we have some cunning sideways shift of a zoom lens? Have I been selling them short all these years?

Michael, have you been using an 85mm Nikkor...?

Sure,

It's the gradient tool, also known as the graduated filter.

It can do things that one otherwise has to go into Photoshop to do, and then nowhere as easily.
