Title: Mamiya 50 mm ULD worth it?
Post by: Snook on June 16, 2008, 11:47:05 pm
Hey RZII guys just wondering what you all think about the 50mm ULD and is it worth all the extra (still cheap) $$ for the ULD model..
What gives with the Regular 50mm ..
Is it junk?
I currently have the 65 but wanted to try and get a little wider..
Shooting with the P30 by the way.
Thanks for any suggestions

The newer version mostly improved on corner sharpness/distortion by using the floating element......not sure how much of a difference you will see though since you are shooting w/ p30 and not using the full image circle of the lens.

ULD is definately sharper lens for close range shooting. I had both to compare and let the standard 50mm go.

Thank you guys..
I appreciate it.
You think it is worth getting?
Is it all that much wider than the 65mm.. Very noticeable?
Thanks again

It was worth getting for me in the film days. It is an outstanding lens. The RZ platform is starting to look very attractive again because it is dirt cheap used in mint condition. The APO lenses are very good too.

My conclusion as well.  Less pain with the RZ, it just works. Great lenses, not as harsh as zeiss of fuji.  The only problem I have is that my AFd mount P30 requires a Pro2D model which is very hard to find.  I have three RZ bodies and four lenses I can't use until I get the "D" model.

I am totally Stoked with my RZIID..
For the $$$
And you can pick great len's at great prices..
Can you believe I just Picked up a 140 Macro "M" for the RZ for 250.00
Just had a Little spec of dust that will effect the Quality for sure.
So far I really like the the contrast I am getting from the lens' as well..
Is the ULD that Much better than the regular 50 mm lens.. Quite a big price difference...?
Thanks
Snook

Picked up a 110 2.8 also fro 175.00 that B&H still sells for 1000.00
And it was spotless..:+}

I got an older version of the 50mm because of the size.
I have a 65mm ULD and I find it too massive to use handheld.
it's questionable how much difference there is in quality of photo...anyone tried?

Because of the crop, the older is fine. But if you want the ULD it is a a great lens.

Exactly what I use.
