Title: Lens selection
Post by: BobMcCarthy on July 19, 2005, 11:11:15 am
I use both digital and film cameras. With digi, I prefer the Dx 17-55 zoom. Sharp and plenty fast (2.8) but pricey.

On the f5 I use wide primes to get sharpness across the frame. A 20 and 28 are my most used wides. Normal to tele are interchangeable between digital and film.

hope this helps

Hello !!!

I want a wide angle lens for landscape photography on my Nikon F-80 camera. I have two options; first is Nikkor AF 24mm/f2.8D and second is Nikkor AF 18-35mm/F3.5-4.5D. What I see the advantage of zoom is the easier composition, but on the cost of sharpness. I generally enlarge prints for 12" by 18"(inch). I also shoot on films (no digi, as it is F-80), so sharpness at corners of the lens is also important. Which lens is suitable for me? If the sharpness fall of zoom is not visible at the above print size (even at only 24mm set at zoom), I will opt for this zoom. Kindly also provide me feedback of build quality, edge distortions etc.

   Thanks and regards
    Amal
