Title: Purosol to clean Contax 645 lenses ?
Post by: evgeny on May 27, 2008, 04:01:58 am
Hi,
I bought two Contax 645 lenses from a photographer.
I think to clean the front and back glasses with Purosol and Nikon cloth.

Is Purosol safe for cleaning lens?
How to properly clean the glass?

Thank.

it is supposed to work  but when I tried it the lens had a film over it and I had a tough time getting it off.  I don't use it anymore?

would be curious if others had same result

I cleaned two lenses with Purosol. I'm very pleased with the result.

You can buy a lens cleaning kit direct from Zeiss in Germany. It has fluid, a brush, and cloths. The fluid from Germany is quite different from the generic Zeiss labeled lens fluid commonly available at camera dealers.

There is some discussion on whether microfiber cloths are all they are cracked up to be. Although Leica, Zeiss, and others supply them, they are suspect, as microfiber cloths may actually be leaving micro scratches. I use PecPads instead. One shot deal. Use them, then toss them out.

Coated lenses and filters are prone to the look of being smeared, or still having a streaky film on them once cleaned. Be patient and take your time while cleaning, and change the cloth frequently.

ROR also leaves residue/film. Another suggestion is FormulaMC. I have not have it leave a film ever. I used it on Heliopan and B+W multi-coated filters, and Leica /Zeiss lenses.
