Canon has finally released a Leopard (CUPS) driver for the Canon iPF5000 printer making it fully Leopard compatible to include 16 bit printing. The drivers are available on the Canon Europe site and include the printer driver, media configuration tool, printer driver extra kit and Photoshop plug in.
I have installed the drivers on my MacPro and they work beautifully.

Are profiles created with the old driver still correct with the new one?

Yes, the profiles I created for the iPF5000 with the Datacolor PrintFix Pro do work.
