Post by: martin.storz on April 05, 2008, 02:03:54 pm
Today I had the chance to make some pictures, JPG and DNG, with the new EX-F1.
Read my - a little bit disappointing - first impressions (text in german, but pictures in english!) at

Here is a translation of my provisional first impression about the EX-F1:

In contrast to many P & S-cameras, cameras with rudimentary video function, the EX-F1 is primarily designed as a video, high-speed and high-tech camera.

A useful photo feature is available, certainly with significant improved quality, as still photos made from pure video cameras.

But - so my first impression - photography is not the central feature, not the strength of this camera. (for exampel: sensitivity above 200 ISO is not availible shooting in RAW-DNG)

Casio has launched the EX-F1 as an innovative high-tech product on the market, the comparison with a Formula 1 racing car is not absolutely absurd.
And racing car stands not (Still), but move, and that pretty quickly (Movie).

Even if the IQ of the Ex-F1 is not quite up to the current standard, it holds with the sum of its features in its class a pole position.

I will have a review of the Casio EX-F1 here within the next few weeks. It's such a full featured product and so innovative that it will take some time to get the full measure of it.

Michael,
as I had no opportunity to have a real operate experience with the camera, I'm curious about your deeper review.

I have had a devil of a time finding still, full size sample images from this camera.
The video aspects are certainly interesting, but I would really like to see its IQ in stills exspecially at low ISO. Aparently it shoots jpegs, and RAW in DNG format.
I am interested in it as a carry around P&S. With a 1.8 CMOS @ only 6.6mp, it should be "ok" at least.

Any sites/comments?

thanks
