Title: HELP, long firewire cable and where?????
Post by: LA30 on April 02, 2008, 01:59:12 pm
Folks,

I can't seem to find that one place that sells (in the USA) the very long firewire 400 cable.  I am looking for something like 30 or 40 feet?  Would a repeater work?  I am looking to get this cable right away.  I have seen the website, they have gold ends...I just can't seem to find it.

It will be used on a Phase P30+ Back and a H2

Thanks!

Ken

The best I've run across is from Granite Digital

I haven't run out of length yet, but what's the practical limit for tethering a phase back?

(BTW, the pic on that site... doesn't look like 32 feet - maybe it's stretchy   )

Only speaking from a Leaf, but I've had no problem with the 32' length.  I run a 9 pin to 6 pin wire and the Granite Digital 6 pin end is too large to fit in the Leaf so they also sell a 6 inch pigtail that allows to fit.

Yes, that is the place!

Thanks!

Ok, just ordered the 32' cable via telephone.  I mentioned that I would run it into a phase digital back....He mentioned that I will need a smaller cable to allow it to fit in the phase back (not shown on the website!)  I get it friday night and I will try it out and post my findings.

Thanks for the quick help!

We have a 33" that works great.  The ends connect firmly and it's a rugged cable.  Take a look at this link showing it used on our cable tester:

It is a CI-FW33 and costs $85.00.
