Title: 47mm Schneider xl 4x5 film lens Any Use?
Post by: Murray Fredericks on March 16, 2008, 07:45:38 am
Hi All,

I have an old 47mm XL Schneider lens gathering dust which was from my 4x5 film system.

I have heard they can be sent to Alpa for mounting and use with the MFBD Alpa systems.

Is that correct and is it sharp/ good enough? Has anyone done it successfully?

Cheers

Theoretically the lens could be mounted, but

- it's available new for Alpa

- custom mounting means sending the lens to Switzerland, from there it goes to Schneider, is taken apart, remounted, recalibrated and then put into an Alpa mount. Very expensive task. And even then no guarantee that it will perform like a "regular" 47mm which is produced for Alpa.

It might be a better idea to sell the lens and buy a new, regular one.
