Title: Baryta Papers and Outgassing?
Post by: willconnor on February 13, 2008, 12:17:51 pm
I'm wondering if the Baryta papers might be subject to similar outgassing problems as RC papers.

Harmon describes that "the baryta layer prevents the emuldion layer soaking into the fibre base..."

Does this act like the plastic barrier on RC papers, thus leaving the glycols nowhere to go but up onto the glass?

Most papers intended for digital printing have barrier coatings of some sort. . They all out-gas.
The problem most likely varies from one inkset to the next, but I have not seen any conparisons published. The best advise is to allow prints to stabilise as long as possible , say a week , before framing and have as much gap as possible between print and glass. There seems to be a trend around these parts towards "box" frames, with about a 2-3 cm gap between print and glass
