I shot quite a bit on the Sechelt (sp?) Penninsula, BC, a few years ago.  There were areas that had been logged in the 1930's that had cedar stumps perhaps four or five feet high.  In the years since, cedar trees had sprouted from the tops of the stumps, grown and sent root systems down to the soil. It was an interesting sight to see.
