Thought some might find it of interest.

Looks like it will be a film camera, would have been cool to see digital MF cameras released.
Anyway, some people are still waiting to see one of the DBacks they showed around a few years ago. Were they ever sold outside of Japan, were they sold at all.
There may be a market for a rangefinder, non slr type of high resolution camera. Fuji did rangefinder cameras years ago, Mamiya still does.

On that linked blog, interesting comment laid at Fuji´s feet about the superiority of film...

Maybe it'll be the Fuji 645AF (Hasselblad H1/H2).

Yes, that would certainly make sense. Whatever it is, I hope the lenses fit on my H3D, and that they include a wide angle T/S
The rangefinder comment is interesting. If they released a 39MP MF interchangeable lens rangefinder I'd have to put a second mortgage on the house.

A 645 version of the GX680 would be ideal!
Let's wait and see.

this would be KILLER...but I doubt it...

Actually, I know of a few GX 645 AF's that are state side, however I do not know if the GX will currently support h1/h2 digital backs. The lens line up as far as I know is exactly the same. Hats off to Fuji if they Launch the 645AF in the states as a non closed system!

I got an opportunity to check out a Fuji GX 645 with a Phase back
(p45) at the last PhotoPlus Expo. Camera and back worked just fine together.
It was definitely H1/H2 compatible: both lenses and back.
I don't know, of course, whether this is what Fuji is going to unveil. Should be
an interesting week.

From the Fuji press release - "Fujifilm will feature a prototype of a new portable medium-format film camera."
1) "Prototype" - perhaps it will become a production model. Maybe not.
2) "Portable" - my best guess is this means a compact fixed-lens rangefinder model. Fuji has produced some very nice ones in the past.
3) "Film Camera" - fits the concept of a compact rangefinder nicely. The cost involved in producing a prototype compact fixed-lens rangefinder film camera would be relatively small compared to an SLR system and Fuji could put this together with relative ease.
As for Fuji getting a license from Hasselblad to distribute the Fuji branded "H" camera beyond the domestic and regional market that has already been granted, I would not wager anything on that developing. That doesn't prevent individual resellers from obtaining gray-market product and selling it as they wish, but Fuji has limited distribution rights.

I really, really hoped they would ressurect the FUJI GX680 as a version IV, with interchangeable rotating rear mounts of course. But this ^^ is also good, not something I would use a lot, but good...

I probably would have like this more if it were 6x8 rather than 6x7. But it is still interesting. Something to compete with the Mamiya 7 (sort of).

Gidday,
What amazes me is why didn't they hinge the trap door at the bottom so when open it could sit in the palm of your hand for better stability?

So they can sell you an accessory grip at an exorbitant price.
-
Interesting, a beautiful camera after my heart. Not practical, and I keep trying to stop shooting any film, but I'd love to have that for hiking in the mountains.
-
very cool - be cooler if it were a 16-22MP MF sensor option...

The distance between the base of the camera and the rangefinder housing is not sufficient to allow enough bellows draw if the cover (which supports the lens and bellows assembly) were made to fit in the other direction.

Gidday,
I must admit that I found the girls a lot more attractive than the camera

Hey, TechTalk,
Welcome back! I thought you had become the 'straw-man' and morphed into Ray just to give us all a hard time. Ahh.. but I don't think that is your nature. Don't stay away so long next time .

Gidday,
I have to say that I actually going looking for Ray when I am bored just to see what poor photographer he is aggravating now.
Cheers

Hmm, an rangefinder camera with a huge bellow, doesn't really make framing easier.
But why did they developp this ...thing, I have to admit, it looks nice.
Fuji could be a big fish in the MF pond, but they seem to have no idea what photographers want and need.

I don´t think this camera was made to fulfill everyone´s wants and dreams. I think it´s refreshing to see a camera that isn´t trying to be everything to everyone. This type of folder has a niche market of people who want ultra portable medium format. Fold and drop in jacket pocket. Looks interesting, especially since it has metering capabilities, for personal work. We´ll see if it gets sold outside of the Japanese market.

I doubt there is enough distance top to bottom to extend the lens.
I have a 5x4 camera very similar, a Razzledog [a href=\"http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~razzle/]http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~razzle/[/url]
They are nice to use and have, if you shoot ready load you can travel very light with them.

I would have love myself a similar camera for polaroid like the old Konica...
