Title: Printing on Aluminium
Post by: jklotz on January 18, 2008, 03:18:27 pm
I am looking for a printer that can make photographic prints on aluminum sheets. I saw a company doing this at the PhotoExpo show in NYC, but I can't find the information anywhere. Any ideas of where I can get this done?

Are you talking about the image laser  etched into the aluminum or some sort of an inkjet print on the metal?

I have not yet tried this, but using Inkaid supposedly allows you to print on any surface--plus, I believe they actually have metal sheets already coated for sale.  I presume any inkjet printer with the allowable media width could use them.

Book Smart Studio has some pre-coated aluminum that you could try out:

http://www.booksmartstudio.com/store/index...b80151356b3df91 (http://www.booksmartstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=199&zenid=59250d8f020ffbfedb80151356b3df91)

I ordered a sample kit to test the different weights and surfaces. They also have ICC profiles for their coated metal sheets, makes it well worth the cost to order from them to start.

I also ordered some inkAid to coat some aluminum that I have.  I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

I printed on my Epson 7600 with no problem. You will need a straight path printer. Pigment works well.

Best,
Michael

The link I gave will take you directly to the Booksmart Studio site also.  Glad to hear you were pleased with the samples--I have been planning to order the sample kit.  I have Inkaid for other surfaces, but the metal appeals to me.

Yes  Eric  at Booksmart has put a lot of time and money into having this product produced! His company has many printers that this can be printed on and profiles to boot.

Booksmart will also print on it for someone if they would like.
There team of Eric, Melissa & Cory do a very good job.

Cheers

I have been very impressed with their appraoch and their dedication to quality.  I have ordered from them a couple of times and like working with them.

I hope they do well!  Rochester and RIT certainly have a great history and culture to draw from.

Best,
Michael

I know someone who has done hundreds of prints using inkaid, aluminum and the 4800. He is very happy with the results.
