Hello,
I've been very frustrated trying to profile my monitor. I am trying to calibrate/profile my crt monitor using the Monaco optix xr.
I've read in various forums that it is best to calibrate the monitor for brightness and contrast and then use monaco to profile.
I find this true since it does a lousy job calibrating the monitor.
My main question is Monaco gamma. This utility is supposed to to load values into the gamma table since windows (at least xp) connect do this. At least this is what it says in their users guide.
The problem is that when it loads at startup the whole screen goes alot brighter.
Is monaco gamma actually required? Without this isn't the created profile used? (It is set as default profile in Control panel -> Color management)

Try the Microsoft Color Control Panel Applet for Windows XP (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=1E33DCA0-7721-43CA-9174-7F8D429FBB9E&displaylang=en)
And make sure Adobe Gamma isn't loading at startup.

A loader has to do two or three things on startup. 1. It assures that the profile is loaded as the default in windows. 2. It assures that the video lut is loaded in the video card at startup. 3. it assures that a monitor lut, if there is one, is loaded at startup. In theory none of these functions should be necessary but it is better to assume that failure will occur and loading at startup is a good thing. There is not a reason to not have a loader unless something is not working properly. Have you confirmed that you only have one loader? Check your startup items for other loaders, like adobe gamma. If you find more, delete them.
