Hi
I have no problems with the current model & have shot super sites with it. The new AF/M switch is better the same as the 35mm lens. Again they are going with the 16 CPU upgrading from the 4 CPU. It is still a 2.8 lens. I am more interested in the new 45-90 zoom.

I'm thinking that the 16bit CPU might help improve autofocus when the Mk III bodies come out?
I wonder if they will also manage to get a faster flash sync speed with the new bodies as well?

I am cannot wait for the LEAF shutter lens they have been raving about!!
That will take care of the sync problem.
I do not think the new Body will sync that much faster, because why would they make new leaf shutter lens if they were going to make the body sync faster??

Hmmm.. IF this is for real I'm disappointed that it's not an f/1.9.

Since the AF is in the camera, I'm not sure why they need more processing power in the lens. Maybe to reduce lag time? 16-bits probably has more to do with the upcoming camera, vs the AFD II and ZD. Having the the AF/MF on the lens barrel is much better than the tiny switch on the body. And the metal lens body may feel more pro than consumer. Mostly, I'm interested in the updated coatings and how the light strikes the sensor.
Has anybody heard what the aperture on the 45-90 is? Contax's was F4.5, but that seems slow to me; F4.5 translates into a pretty dim viewfinder and not much wiggle room when the light starts to wane. The Mamiya 45/2.8 is a small lens & the Mamiya 80/2.8 is a very small lens - so I would think a reasonably sized 45-90/2.8 is possible. Or maybe something like F2.8-F3.5 (though, I'd much prefer a constant aperture). For general walk around use, I agree, the 45-90 is very interesting option - especially if it has a decent minimum focus distance in the 24" to 36" range.
Overall, I'm happy to see forward progress from Mamiya - updated 120 macro, updated 80, the 45-90 zoom, the 150/2.8. If all this makes it to the market, that's alot of new choices. Of course the prices may suck if the new lenses are like the 28 & 75-150. A friend keeps urging me to switch to the Contax mount, but the 645AF and lenses are locked in time. With new lenses being optimized for digital and the bodies becoming more integrated with the backs, I have concerns about the Contax 645AF technology gap in the coming years.

If they make the same updates as on the 75-150 the 45-90 will have f/4.5 and a closer focusing distance than the 55-110. 2.8 would be awesome but I don't think it will happen, I will still probably buy it though.

No mention of any optical improvements. That is disappointing. I was interested to see the IR filter option below that for the ZD back.

My non-D 80mm is sharp on film but not on the p45+. the 120mm makes it look like garbage.

I'm using it with a P25 and have no complaints (I have the 120mm too), maybe yours could use a calibration?

I reckon that it is just the resolution difference. When I am zoomed at 67 percent it looks sharp, but at 100 looks a fuzzier than the 120mm macro.

My 80 on the P45+ clearly outresolves a 1D3 with a 50 1.2, but the 80 is equally clearly outresolved by the sensor itself. On the other hand I guess this keeps the Moiré effects at bay, the lens itself is acting as a low-pass filter mounted in front of the sensor
