I have had my LX2 for a year now and have found it very useful when a larger camera is not practical. My friend is just starting out and likes the high quality, 16 x9 format and small size of this model. Does anyone know if there are other products that compare favorably?

I sold mine and bought a Canon G9, which I would consider comparable. The G9 seems bigger, but with the lens retracted it slips in to the pocket more easily than the LX2 did.
Also, the G9 has an optical finder, which I consider very important.
