I used Lightroom to rename a bunch of Nikon D3 JPEG files, and now much of the EXIF data in these JPEGs has disappeared. Critical parameters like exposure, exposure bias, focal length and date and time, as well as less critical parameters like file size and dimensions, now have the value <mixed>. All of these EXIF parameters had the correct values prior to the renaming. Has anyone seen this before, and is there any way to get the EXIF back?
I'm running Lightroom version 1.3 on a MacPro with MacOS 10.4.7.
EDIT: Quick follow-up. I opened a few of the JPEGs in Apple's Preview app and used the Get Info command to look at EXIF. It appears all of the EXIF is still there. It's just not showing correctly in Lightroom's Library module.
EDIT: OK, another quick follow-up. The EXIF only appears to display incorrectly in grid view within the Library module. When I double click a thumbnail to get the Loupe view, the EXIF displays correctly. I'd still like to get to the bottom of the problem in Grid view, just in case it's indicative of a larger problem that might bite me in the future.

Hmmmmm. I just noticed that all my adjustments have disappeared as well. All my changes and two days of work down the drain. Anybody have any ideas what in the world is going on here. The history stack for each of the images I had previously adjusted now just says "Reset Settings". All I did was select all of the images in the folder and then use the rename command.

Hi Doug. When I was looking at the metadata panel in the Library module, and seeing <mixed> for the various values, I only had one image highlighted.
When I changed the names (the start of this problem), I had all images in the folder selected.

That's where you got your problem I think.

I think it's a bug. The rename command lets you specify a custom portion of the name (I use the date of the shoot, e.g. 071216), and a sequence number to append to the end of each file (so I get file names like 071216-0001, 071216-0002, etc). In other words, the rename command is designed for changing multiple file names in one operation. So selecting more than one file for renaming is the way it was intended to be used.
Regardless, I should install 1.3.1 and see if that fixes it. It won't bring my adjustments back - they're probably gone for good. But renaming is an important part of my workflow, and for me at least, LR is a very convenient tool to do the renaming, so I'd like to sort this out.
