Title: HP Z3100ps 2" > 3" Spindle Adapters
Post by: dandeliondigital on December 09, 2007, 09:40:17 pm
Hi all,
With my Z3100ps Printer I received 2 different 2" to 3" Spindle Adapters.

One set works well while the other doesn't. One is clunky and doesn't fit both of my spindles while the other is precise and works on both types.

They look like a space capsule if you squint at it. It has got numbers
all over it that are moulded into the plastic (not labels)...

Blue Q 5669-40686

They snap onto my spindles very easily wether both black and gray types spindles.

I need at least 2 or 3 more of these and might even want more. Once you get them on a roll they are hard to come off, and switching back and forth is wasting time. And I use a lot of different media, and a lot of it is on 3" rolls.

I've been to HP and scoured the site, and HP Parts Surfer, and I can't find these parts anywhere.

Anyone know what to order or where I can get them?

Thanks in advance, and so long for now, TOM

If you remove one of the 2 springs in the adapter it makes it much easier to remove.

I recently ordered a replacement spindle from the HP website (It was light gray instead of black) and assumed the adapters would be included but they were not.

I am looking for the same part.  I bought an additional Spindle HP P/N Q6700A for my 24" Z3100 and it only has the 2" black fittings.  No blue 3" adaptors came with it and I have not been able to find the P/N to order these.

BTW there was another post some time ago about how hard it is to remove these from a roll.  One of the posters recommended carefully removing one of the blue plastic spring assemblies which is held in by a metal clip.  I did so and it is a great help for putting on and removing from rolls.  Still holds securley but not overly tight as it was before.

I'll be watching your thread to see if anyone comes up with the P/N and a source.

This might be the link you are looking for.

 HP Online Store (http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.asp?cc=US&SearchInc=PartNumber&lang=EN&jumpid=hpr_R1002_USEN&SearchCriteria=c6090-60112)

They indicate you have to call an 800 number to order.

Its similar but I don't think that's the adapter used on the Z3100.

I also found the solution to the spindle adapter problem.
In my plastic recycling bin were found two woolite detergent blue bottle tops.
Cut off 1/4 " top with hack saw. Fit on 2" spindle and good to go.
I also use a spring clamp to help keep the roll in position.
Cheers

There is a knack to removing the spindles from the rolls. First, yank the roll off the spindle. You will still have a blue adapter stuck fast in the other end of the roll. Then, reinsert the spindle into the roll and with the end, knock the remaining adapter out of the roll. Simple!

most of my 3" media comes with easy white plastic adapters.. so much nicer then those hp ones that always stuck and tuggle
