So D3 turns up
Poor Viv is trying to send out some invoices but I drag her into the street.
its a dull british day
Hassy , 80 at 2.8 and about 60th is underexposing at 200 ISO
D3 50mm at 2.0 is at 125th at 200 or 400 cant remember
Tried to fill the frame equally
I then used PS to upsize the 13mp D3 file to the 22mp size
And tried to the the eyes the same size in the frame having cropped the D3 to the aspect of the 54LV
A little bit of curves in PS for the 54LV file
What is the point of this poor test.
Well - its a demo of natural light shooting
Maybe the blad isnt quite in focus - but thats part of the equation - maybe the blad there is more movement - but that is part of the equation too - maybe upsizing the D3 is the wrong approach - but that is part of the eqation too
For hand held in poor light the D3 looks like a winner even at 13mp
For good light I am sure the euqation will change..
But bad light is one fact of life
Also the nikon has jpgs and the workflow was twice as fast not to mention the AF and the look ? not bad with the 50mm IMO

edit
the crop the D3 is on the right, and I am convinced the blad is backfocussed either cos the chip is missaligned or the af is rubbish once I recomposed

Hi Morgan. I have a D3 on order, so I'm looking forward to your comparison under better light. Maybe if I ever get mine, I can do a side by side with my P45+ :-)
I'm not sure I reached the same conclusion you did on the samples you provided. The MF shot looks sharper and more detailed, but considering it's being compared to an upsampled 12 MP file, I'm not sure what else to expect. All that said, neither shot is particularily sharp in the 100% crops shown.

The 22mp will win in better light or with strobes
But window lit portraits etc I am not so sure
of course it is horses for courses but I have always been very unhappy with my nikon horses and used my blad in poor conditions
time will tell I dont even know how to use nikon capture yet!

More playing with this thing.
LIVE VIEW.
I dont even know if I know how it works yet
but in 'tripod mode' you can zoom in live real time and check/adjust your focus
MF backs NEED to copy this for use on ALPA style cameras - tis fantastic
It is so much better than looking through even a mirror - I cant focus my HC35 in a dark interior
