Title: Need some advice .... Canon lens
Post by: bellimages on November 26, 2007, 11:04:19 am
I'm thinking about selling my Canon 16-35 f2.8 and Canon 70-200 f4 lens. Both are "L" series. Both lens are about 3 years old and in excellent condition.

I want to invest in a longer lens (such as the Canon 100-400). Since this lens costs over $2000, I'm hoping that the sale of my two lens can reduce my "out of pocket" expenses.

What can I expect to get out of my two lenes by selling them myself. And, can I use this site to advertise them for sale?

I'm not sure what you'll get, but there is a for sale section of the site here (http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=40) .

Will you not miss the shorter lens? (especially the 16-35).

From what I have seen on Ebay and Craigslist..."L" glass holds -85% or better of it's original retail cost if in MINT condition with original box and all documentation...AND...has not been superceded by a newer lens series (ie the 28-70 superceded by the 24-70).

And while I have not paid specific attention to the 16-35, I have seen several (more than 10) of the 70-200 f4.0L sell for $495.00 or more assuming the listed criteria above...
I have also seen several (more than 10) of the 24-70 2.8L sell for $995.00 or more also assuming the listed criteria above...
I have seen more examples but I think you get the idea...best of luck !!!

I'm not really sure. I purchased it when I was shooting with a Canon 20D. Since I've upgraded to the full-frame sensor on the 5D, I don't use it much. My 24-70 takes care of my needs.

Your thoughts???

I personally like ultrawides but I suppose it depends largely on your shooting style. I'm currently using a borrowed 17-40 on a 5D and I really like the effect. Let me know when you decide on a price for your 16-35, I might be interested.

Thanks

You could look at KEH.com for current prices of used cameras and lenses. You could also do their online quote to see what they would pay you outright for your equipment. Your final sales price would most likely be somewhere in between.
