Title: iMac Displays
Post by: rwwong on November 14, 2007, 06:34:44 pm
Are the new iMac display monitors acceptable for post editing photography work?  I ask because we are in the market for a desktop, and would either get an iMac or a Mac Pro with a Cinema Display.  Are they comparable to the Cinema Display?  I would appreciate anyones input, thanks!

A Cinema Display would be really, really preferable.

The major complaint about the new iMacs is the glossy glass placed over the LCD causing glare and making it difficult to calibrate. There is no longer a choice for a matte finish display.

This was a major factor in my decision to buy a Mac Pro four months ago. My other considerations were the 4 gig limit on ram in the iMac and only one hard drive.

I would go for a Cinema Display. The 20" iMac is definitely not good compared to the 24". I found the 24" to be - to my eyes - equivalent to the 23" Cinema Display.

Glossy vs Matte is a matter of taste and I prefer the non-glossy displays.

A Mac Pro with a cinema display is going to be better and have longer life -- there are things you can upgrade on the Pro that you can't on the iMac.
