In another thread TH says..
Yes, the whole Sinarbacks lineup can be attached to the Rolleiflex 6001 / 6003 / 6008 / 6008 Integral / 6008 AF cameras:
Now you can get a used 6006 for $800 with an 80
I really am a newb on this system
Do all the lenses have 500+ flash synch ?
Is there a 55 Risefall
does the back mount in landscape and portrait
is the screen bright - is top lookin by nature brighter than prism (much brighter)
do you see wrong way round image looking in the top ?
Can one get a rollie mount back to plop straight on an alpa
on a view camera like a sinar ?
Any other comments
I kind of think that the D3 will be so cool that it will be useable and therefore going for a more considered but more flexible system then the H may be for me in the MF world

PQ lenses have 1/500 flash snc. PQS lenses have 1/1000 flash sync. I can't speak for the earlier 'HFT' lenses.
Yes, there is a 55mm tilt/shift lens.
Yes, the back can be mounted in portrait and landscape modes.
Waist level finder is lovely, bright and large. Of course the image is mirrored as with any WLF.

My Understanding is that Rollei with Sinar Back to Alpa requires unscrewing the adapter. It is not a click of - click on situation
Apparently this will be rectified with the Hy6. With the appropriate adapters the Hy6 to Alpa transfer of the back on location should be quick and easy without the risk of dropping screws etc and generally fiddling around during a shoot.
Is this correct Thierry?

I have never used a WLF finder camera - and I dont hang around in camera shops much !
I think I used a bronnie that had a flip out bit that reversed (notmalised) the image once

Murray,
from my understanding is that when your e-75LV etc. is set up for the Hy6,
it will mount straight on to the Alpa-Hy6 adapter.
No unscrewing etc.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Can't wait to collect the Hy6.
Also ,we should get together for a beer soon.
Cheers,
Willem.

Mirror reflex prism finder camera, image looks normal.
Mirror reflex direct matte screen viewing (WLF), image is reversed but right side up.
Direct matte screen viewing (large format), image is reversed as well as upside down.
Some shooters (myself included) find that viewing images direcly on the matte screen abstracts the image and helps composition. In my experience it helps you take focus away from the little things and makes big things more important (where should that person stand, instead of should that person really be wearing a pendant...)
WLF finders should be brighter as light does not have to travel through "more glass", but seldom are as the light from the outside and reflexes from above makes the light shining through "dimmer". (I don't know this for a fact, it's just my experience, if anyone has a correct definition of matte screen brightness vs. prism finder brightness, please chime in...)
The larger the WLF, the better, differences are much more apparent than prism finder viewing... (Try using a WLF on an old nikon vs. a 6x7 format WLF.)

For the record
"..Given the small number of Rollei 600x customers with digital backs it makes no economical sense for us to project such an adapter at that time.."
(alpa)
They are of course developing a mount for the HY6

To be fair you should also mention that the Rollei 6008 mount is too large for them to use, and it is huge. The Hy6 mount is a lot more versatile.

True - I wasnt having a dig at ALPA (although mention of the word economic in the quote could look that way)
I was just trying to clarify the situation for any readers present or future who may have done some sums and realized that ALPA/ROLLIE 6008 and one set of lenses looked like a very economic and flexible MF solution

The adapter for the rollei lenses to fit the alpa (posted last week) looks great.

Just you need to spaf the cash and go Hy6 - I was hoping for this flexibility with a bunch of bargain bin stuff
If you have a Dback for Hy6 mount (or any H ect) you can use rollei mount lenses
Just a 6008 mount DB wont go on the back of the alpa
If I were an Hy6 owner I would go straight for an ALPA too
give some rise on the same set of lenses and open an option NOW 35 for 28mm too
If I were an Hy6 manufactuer/distributor I would be cutting a deal with alpa to sell it as a package

I think you need an external electronic shutter/diaphragm control unit with the Hy6 lenses on an Alpa. Don't know how this plays out in practice, yet another item hanging off your tripod. There don't seem to be any actual Hy6 owners yet. I really wonder if the standard Alpa quasi-symmetric lenses aren't the proper way to use the Alpa, clip a lens and back to it, and get a rigid portable unit.

CAn anyone elaborate on the setup for Alpa and Rollei PQ or PQS lenses?
It seems like a great way to save $000's on Alpa lenses. More realistically, I never planned to buy the longer Alpa lenses, just carry on the the 6008 (or Hy6 when it appears) and correct in post for the paralax which is less critical for the longer frames. The Alpa attachment would be convenient - if it works!!
Cheers

The Alpa seems to be shift only, no tilt. I think I'll go down the view camera path. Of course you can use the Rollei lenses on that too.

Willem and Murray,
Yes, Alpa has annouced an "ALPA adjustable back adapter for Leaf/Rolleiflex/Sinar Hy6/AFi (not yet available):
http://www.alpa.ch/index.php?path=products...&detailpage=257 (http://www.alpa.ch/index.php?path=products/backs_adapters/digital_backs_and_adapters&detailpage=257)
So yes, if this is the case, no need to change the adapter plate.
I'd love to have this beer with you!
Best regards,
Thierry

We are using the SWA ALP
A with the Rollei adapter for copying. You will need a Lens Conrtol unit with a Rollei battery or an AC adapter. There is no way to use the ALPA+ROLLEI lens combo untethered, AFAIK. The 6008 lenses allow about 8mm shift without CA on e22 /54LV;

ALPA made a NEW Tilt/Shift adapter to fit all Alpa Cameras, unfortunately you can only use it from 80mm and up "to my knoledge".
Why is Alpa Forum Closed?
Perhaps ALPA users can confirm more details.

Thierry,
when you are in Sydney again, please let me know!
Also,Caracalla that Alpa tilt/shift adapter sounds good to me!
Anymore news on that?

I visited ALPA in Zurich in September. Thomas (the owner of ALPA) said that we should expect the Tilt lens adapter before Photokina 08. I am hearing about tilt for ALPA for a year, from my dealer and elsewhere. What was interesting, Thomas of ALPA said that from a technical standpoint a tilt adapter for Rollei lenses is possible, there is enough of space between the lens
and the camera. When and if it is done the Rollei & ALPA combo will replace my old Xact for my applications. I am trying to find an excuse not to buy the expensive and heavy Sinar P3 .Yevgeny Thierry,

Dear Yevgeny,
the p3 is certainly not the right tool for this. I remind about the existence of the Sinar f3 model, which is about half the price and half the weight of a p3.
Best regards,
Thierry

Dear Thierry,
Thank you. I have tested the f3+e22 a year ago. It is indeed very light and well built. Then I was demoed a Sinar p3+eMotion solution with a CMV lens, very nice and clever. F3 is a very good field camera and I thought a lot about buying it.
I have been shooting LF (Sinar Norma) and MF film for more than 20 years, for pleasure. And I want to use movements with my Sinar backs. I owned and still have access to a Rollei Xact-2 and used the camera with db20 and the Rollei slide-swing adapter for the Phase One 16 mpx. back; I had to focus on the tiny Ground Glass (with the loupe or 45 degree finder) and than put the back on the camera to find very often that the critical focus was lost. I tend to shoot tethered since and hate those small GGs. The f3 shown to me was with the sliding adapter as well. I asked my Sinar dealer whether it would be possible to use eMotion backs without sliding adapter directly on the rear standard and was told that it would not be possible.
Then I bought a Sinar-M with the AF module and AF lenses with an idea to use it as a sort of an automated and very modern Sinarcam, for my catalogue and copying work. It works for me very well and I like that the sensor is always covered with the shutter blades and clean . The optics is fabulous and is the reason to keep the M forever.
I was told that the only view camera I can use with my Sinar-M shutter is the p3.
IMO the p3 is too big for digital and still utilize the gears and bearers from LF cameras, very precise I was told, even for modern digital backs. I think that there is no need (for me, others can have different opinions) for so much of rise and fall, swing and other movements. In my experience, and I can be wrong, 10-12 mm of front movement and 5 degrees of tilt is more that enough. And the movements of the rear standard are needed very rare, I prefer my rear standard as vertical and rigid as possible. The greater movements create a lot of problems (falloff , CA etc), some can deal with all the problems in software, I cannot. That is why I bought the ALPA-Rollei adapter and now I can use shift (no tilt) with longer 6008 lenses, a little bit of shift in my experience helps to get rid of unnecessary reflections on paintings.
I will welcome a new MODERN view camera from Sinar and it should be better integrated with the new generation of backs and Hy6 and software. For now I will stay with my Sinar-M and Alpa cameras and very limited movements.
Sorry for a long post.
Yevgeny
