Title: Lightroom to CS3 and return

Is it possible, before any corrections are made, have a RAW file sent from Lightroom to CS3 to have a noise filter such as DFine applied and then have the file, still in RAW format returned to Lightroom to proceed with the corrections? I suspect I have to open the RAW file in CS3 as a  smartobject, and then run DFine. I'm lost as to how to get it back to Lightroom again though, still in RAW (nef) format.

No. To get the file into CS3 you have to convert it from the RAW data to a standard image file format (e.g., PSD or TIFF) in a standard color space (e.g., ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB). If you saw the true RAW data in CS3 you would actually be looking at a linear gamma grayscale image ...
