Title: Need a 2nd hand price for H1 system
Post by: friml on August 04, 2007, 03:10:46 am
Hi all, im a 20YO photograpy student from Australia, and have been made quite a significant offer, and was really looking for some feedback from you guys.  Ive been reading LL for years, and have always appreciated how thorough Michaels essays/reviews are, and the disscussion in these forums ...hence why im here.

I have been offered the following system for $AU10000 $US8520

Blad H1 with the Hasselblad branded Imacon ixpress 132C 22MP back with 40GB image bank.
HC35mm
HC50mm
HC100mm
HC210mm
HC 1.7 extension
some HC extension tubes

few other bits and pieces (all lens' with blad UV filters hoods big lowepro bag etc)

All Mint

As a student and in my financial situation, its not appropriate for me to buy this system for use no matter how much id love it to shoot with it...
I already have a Fully fitted Nikon system with 2.8 zooms and a nicely fitted Vseries system.  They both do the job commercially, and with my studies.

Ive been offered a interest free loan from a parent to buy this system, considering how good the price is, and am considering buying it to sell.  the potential money i could make could really help my photographic career in terms of new equipment.

Could anyone help me realisticly price this system as a whole and for part sale?  How desirable are those 132C backs with the goofy imagebank?  How much do H1 bodys go for.  HC lens'?

Im having trouble pricing it.

Thanks alot for reading.

The H1D22 alone will go for about 8K USD on Ebay. The lenses themselves at least another 6K USD. Reselling you had best do it all separately.

Buying the whole set for 8400USD is almost a steal. If you don't, I will . Personally I would sell the H1D22 and keep the lenses. You will have those basically for free.

This is all under the assumption everything is in excellent condition and the deal is legitimate.

Split all the up and put them on eBay.
You should make $10K AUD with ease.
Contact me if you need any help.
Cheers,
Willem.

i understand your skepticism, i didn't believe it either, until i spent a few hours playing with the kit, shooting and checking the files on my macbook.  its legit.

rethmeier:  how much of a market [particularly on ebay or private] is there for such a system in AUS?  Would i actually fetch these kind of of prices?  Id rather sell ebay/private not involving a second hand retailer since they're sharks.

Do folks in the states and EUR have a problem making such online purchases from AUS?

thanks for the feedback so far everyone.  really helping.

I live in Europe and have no problem buying in Australia. I would be interested in taking the HC100/2.2 of your hands. If it is that far please send me a PM.

The market in Australia is very healthy. If its not a scam it must be hot, its too cheap. Get the serial numbers checked or check original receipts. You'd get much better money instantly on ebay if its genuine, so why wouldn't you?

if you know the source and the deal is legit, then you're obviously getting a sweetheart deal. i've often sold things to friends for much less than the ebay rate (i do buy and sell often on ebay though) for a lot of reasons. assuming that it's a sweetheart deal from friend or family, you should consider keeping it all and enjoying it, rather than profiting off of it by reselling. or at least asking if it's okay to resell. just being respectful. if there's no personal aspect, and it's just a great deal, then by all means recoup your investment by selling the back (which will continue to depreciate in the nearterm) and keep the lenses (which will hold value for a long long time).

If it were so cheap on account of someone being very generous to a young photographer i would never consider selling it.  there is no connection to the seller.

As much has i would love to keep the Glass and even the Body, which would give me a real head start in putting such a system together down the track; like said in my first post its just not financially an option for me at the moment.  It would be a financial purchase for resale.

id like to thank everyone again for their input.

I think it it a scam. You guys are getting sucked into making private offers to purchase the pieces from friml.  Pieces that you will never see. The signs of a scam are easily found in the overtone of the writting. " Sharks , etc. " It is not even original. I make very good living on making long distance deals and over the years developed survival instinct called intuition.

I simply don't know what to say.  I'm insulted that people would jump to these kind of conclusions.  And for the record, i thought using the word "shark" may be inappropriate, but i let it pass on the assumption that people in this forum aren't to uptight and judgmental.

You've all given me enough advise anyway, which i thank you for, but if this thread continues with "its hot" , "its a scam" etc, id rather it die.  for those that helped, thanks.

i know it doesen't prove anything aside from my background, but here a page of mine.  at least IM real.  http://www.uber.com/friml (http://www.uber.com/friml)

... and of course I can be mistaken and you just really did not know and had no way to check on your "MacBook" the prices for H1 and lenses. It that case I would advice you to make the purchase from the seller who has no connection to you right away since any pownshop in Australia is going to offer him/her more for this staff. I had no intention to offend you but rather to caution fellow photogs
of possibilities of a hidden agenda. We live in a world were we are bombarded every day with internet very sophisticated scams. Being overly paranoid is still much cheaper than being sorry.
Enjoy this good deal.

Tomas,

Best of luck with the purchase and resale of the products, you can make monay on ebay breaking it up into parts.

As for all the bashing I didn't see him asking if anyone wanted to buy the stuff....  Simply asking advice to "PROFESSIONALS" like andre napier.  Which to me is a joke, not sure how this CHEEZE BALL makes a living and how he buys his A75s.

Tomas, your work already blows this guys away... so I hope you were be sarcastic saying you wish you could shoot like this TOOL.  You never want to aspire to be like this guy.

I think he makes most of his money from the Hair Salon and claims to be a photographer.  This guy couldn't get a job shooting retired aging pornstars in LA for free.  The people that do hire him have to be CHEEZIER than he is, which is hard.

Anyway, nice work on your UBER site and I would keep the Hassleblad H gear if I were you and try to sell your Hassleblad V and downgrad the Nikon kit.  the Hassleblad H1 with the Imacon back is a great set up.  I just got the H3D and love it.

We should close this thread by now, this is getting is nowhere.

I agree with Andre, it simply sounds too good to be true, and my alarm bell was ringing immediately when I saw this post.
Well, advice was given, if this thing is for real, go and buy this stuff NOW, and resell it if you can. I don't really see why you still hang around discussing in this thread. People, me included, are very carefull over here, and it really seems that you hang around waiting for offers from fellow LL forumers. Sorry if this is not the case.

Good Morning Willem

Nice to see you buzzing in here-hope things good for you as well--work slowed to a point where I will be selling my P25/H1 kit on Aus Ebay soon. Cannot justify it up here.

I thought this was the tropics--it's 9c up here this morning!

Best,

Assuming this proposition is not a scam, you have a few options:

1) Buy and resell everything. Risks: beiing stuck on one or more items, getting less money than expected. Same as getting a good deal on a car or any other stuff. Somewhat different business than photography.

2) Buy and resell back only, keep lenses. In my opinion this is not smart, what do you do with naked lenses and nothing to record the image on? Could still be a viable option if you really get the lenses for very cheap after selling the back. Risk: selling a digital back may be harder than expected, prices fall fast and pros in this market want the latest and best for a reason.

3) Make an economically sound decision as a photographer. What is the present value of the deal, what is its payback date? How long does it take to pay for itself, with what probability? Can this equipement get you jobs you cannot get now? How often? Is renting gear (and charging the client specifically for it) an alternative? If the purchase still looks good from this point of view, buy. Otherwise simply don't.
